Compression Stockings to Prevent Post-thrombotic Syndrome:  The SOX Trial

Study Title: Analysis of Gene Expression Profiles in Patients with Recurrent Venous Thrombosis

IRB# Pro00010342

CURRENTLY ENROLLING PARTICIPANTS
The primary objective of the SOX Trial is to determine if graduated elastic compression stockings (ECS) work daily for two years after proximal DVT is diagnosed and/or decrease the incidence of Post-Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS) at the 2-year follow up, compared to inactive "placebo stockings.
Secondary objectives are:  1)  To determine if active stockings reduce the severity of PTS two years after DVT occurence; 2) To compare average quality of life scores during follow-up in the active intervention vs. control groups; 3) to determine whether markers of inflammation, D-Dimer level and inherited or acquired thrombophilia influence the development and severity of PTS; 4) to describe rates of recurrent DVT, death from Venous Thromboembolism (VTE), venous ulcers, and major bleeding during the 2-year follow-up in the active intervention vs. control groups and to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of our intervention for the prevention of PTS.
This is a multi-center, double-blind randomized 1:1 clinical trial.
